About Us
* * * * *
Founded in 2010, the Science Engineering and Art Laboratory, aka SEA Lab, is a [makerspace](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makerspace) with a broad focus of exploring the world around us. Through workshops, events, and multimedia, we like to engage the public in a way that demystifies technology and encourages experimentation. We will be filing later this year as an LLC entity with 501(c)3 status.

The [Art Hive](http://www.facebook.com/pages/the-art-hive/119542191426) is an organization working on their non-profit status as well. They are a network of local artists dedicated to promoting the arts in Florence and surrounding communities. Right now, the building on 208 North Court Street is being renovated, and we will be experimenting there alongside them when its complete. We are certainly willing to work with other organizations as partners, sponsors, and corporate members.

What's with the crazy bird and knock off graphics?
Cynthia mentioned how the original logo's colors looked similar to Twitter, so Heath made it look even more so like that, and it worked out so that we have a mascot: Tweaky the robobird(name courtesy of Shae). It doesn't tweet, it tweaks, with its laser eyes and fire breathing torch mouth :-)
